The German-American student exchange between the Governor School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) in Hartsville, South Carolina and the Johanna-Wittum-Schule (JWS) in Pforzheim will take place for the fourteenth time in 2024. Also in this year, the three American students Excellia Liu, Yo-Chih Lai and Peter Steinmetz will have the opportunity to live with the German host families Imhoff, Kyurkchieva and Braun from June 7th to July 15th. During this time, they will be doing a research internship at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg. The mentors of the American exchange students at the DKFZ are Dr. Angel Cid-Arregui, Dr. Stefan Pusch and Dr. Mareike Essers.
During their stay in Germany, Excellia, Yo and Peter were able to deep dive into German history of the 11th – 13th Century when they visited Speyer Cathedral and Triels Castle.
On August 15th, the three JWS students, Helene Imhoff, Tanya Kyurkchieva and Lukas Braun, will travel to America and also conduct a research internship t Clemson University Research Centre in Florence until September 28th. During the Internship, they will live at the GSSM.
