American students research at the DKFZ

The German-American student exchange between the Governor School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) in Hartsville, South Carolina, and the Johanna-Wittum Schule (JWS) in Pforzheim will take place for the thirteenth time in 2023. This year, the three American students Ashley Niu, Mary O`Brien and Peter Hoegy will have the opportunity to live with the German host families Biesinger, Lai and Lukacs from June 6th to July 14th. During this time, they will be doing a research internship at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg. The mentors of the American exchange students at the DKFZ are Dr Angel Cid-Arregui, Dr Stefan Pusch and Prof. Dr Stefan Wiemann.

During their stay in Germany, Ashley, Mary and Peter were able to dive deep into German history of the 11th – 13th century when they visited Speyer Cathedral and Trifels Castle.

On August 16th, the three JWS students, Lilian Lukacs, Nico Biesinger and Minh Lai, will travel to America and also conduct a research internship at the Clemson University Research Centre in Florence until September 28th. During the internship they will live at the GSSM.
