The ticket for Erasmus redeemed
With the accreditation certificate from the German National Erasmus Agency in Bonn, the Johanna-Wittum-Schule has received the authorisation to participate in the new Erasmus+ programme of the European Union from 2021 to 2027. With this programme, the EU promotes international cooperation between schools in joint projects.
For 15 years now, the Johanna Wittum School has been internationally active through this programme, offering its students the opportunity to gain experience in the field of natural sciences, especially biotechnology, on a European level. In the process, lasting friendships have developed with partner schools in Vienna, Brno, Evreux, Athens, Istanbul, Vicenza, Vilnius, Miskolc, Riga and Madrid, for example. The projects carried out, such as the project “European Challenges in Sustainabilty by Biotechnology”, have been awarded several times for outstanding European cooperation.
In particular, the mentoring concept developed together with the partner schools became exemplary in Europe. The concept provides for international student teams to teach participating teachers as well as students during experimental work in the laboratory.
The student, teacher and school management team of the Johanna Wittum School would like to thank the National Agency for the trust they have placed in the school and look forward to funding further projects in the future. A project with eight partner schools on the topic of “Revolution in Biotechnology through CRISPR, the Gene Scissors” is already being planned.
